Auto Insurance Claims: What Should We Do?, traffic stop, worth a shot

Question
Earlier yesterday my boyfriend was driving his Jeep down a major road that happened to have narrow lanes. A girl driving in the lane next to him, talking on her cell phone, swerved into his lane and bumped his Jeep. As soon as she did it she looked at him (as if to say "Oops"), continued talking on her phone and kept driving. My boyfriend kept waving for her to pull over and got behind her, flashing his lights and waving, and ended up following her for about 4-5 miles until she saw a state trooper who was already on a traffic stop and then she stopped behind him. My boyfriend got out of his car and checked the rear passenger side of his car (where he thought she had hit him) and didn't see anything. The lady stayed in her car, spoke to the trooper, then sped off. The trooper told my boyfriend he was free to go then continued on w/ his traffic stop. Later that night, I noticed a large dent and scrape near the front passenger side of his car. Lucky for him, he has her license plate number and description of her car and what she looks like, but since he didn't get her contact information (she wouldn't get out of the car) and the trooper didn't write any kind of report what are our options? Thanks so much for any advice.

Answer
Hi Jess,

This will require some work on your part. You will need to go to the police station to file a police report. Provide them with the license number and ask them to investigate to get the girls insurance and other info. Then you will have to make a claim with her insurance company.  They will likely try to deny the claim since the 1st police officer let both of you go with out making a report, but it may be worth a shot if there is a lot of damage.

I hope this helps
