While driving on the freeway, a truck which was in the lane next to me hit a
medium size rock which then struck the rear wheel of my car scratching it quite
badly. Can I make a claim under my comprehensive coverage on the car to have
the wheel repaired or replaced. And... how does this type of a claim affect my  
insurance rates?

Hi John,

This would be a claim under the comprehensive coverage of your policy. It should not have an effect of your policy unless you have several other claims.  However, you should check the cost of the repair or replacement of the wheel. You will likely find that the cost is below or not much above your deductible. The insurance company will only pay any amount that in above your deductible.
