Auto Insurance Claims: undisclosed points on licence, insurance commission, state insurance

Question
Hello my car was stolen in December. The car was recovered two weeks later and taken to an approved garage. The insurance company hasn't authorised payment on repairs to the car which total £4,100 because of 3 points on my licence that weren't disclosed. As a result they are saying they will take an amount of the final settlement figure for repairs. They have said it will be £261.00. I have a feeling they may increase this figure. Have I any legal right to query the execessive nature of this fee and do I have to pay it at all. I don't understand how it can be thsi much.

Answer
Hi John,

Individual underwriting guidelines are different from company to company. The best thing for you to do is to contact you state insurance commission. They will be able to verify the appropriateness of any rate increase.

I hope this helps
