Auto Insurance Claims: Totalled vehicle, state insurance commissioners, fault insurance

Question
Thank you for the reply.  Now the at fault insurance is saying my son is going to be responsible for paying the storage of the wrecked vehicle and the rental car costs because they have made an offer to him. His own insurance is not helping him either.  The at fault insurance is Farmers insurance and I have not read anything good about them.

-----Question-----
My son had his new vehicle for 1 month when another motorist rear-ended him. The driver was ticketed at the scene. The at fault insurance wants to give him $2500 less than he owes on the vehicle.  He has only made one payment on the loan.  This does not seem fair when it was not my son's fault. He cannot afford to take this loss.  Does he have any options in this or is the innocent one going to pay as usual?

Hi Renee,

Insurance companies will often try to rip you off. It is up to you to provide evidence that proves them wrong.  Considering the newness of your vehicle, you should demand that they pay you the same amount you paid for the car plus sales tax. If they refuse, you can try contacting your state insurance commissioners office to file a complaint against the insurance company.

I hope this helps.

Answer
HI Renee,

The insurance company will try to hold you hostage by insisting you pay for storage and rental. You just need to stand up to them. You would not be incuring additional storage & rental charges if they would just make you a fair offer on the vehicle.

I hope this helps
