Auto Insurance Claims: Highway accident, who is at fault?, side doors, highway accident

Question
I was involved in a car accident last week and I want to reassure myself that I'm not at fault.  Here is what happened:

I was driving down a highway on the second lane from the right.  I was going around 70 km/h at the time as there was quite a bit of traffic.  Suddenly, the car in front of me came to an abrupt stop.  That car came to an abrupt stop as there was an accident ahead of him that closed off several lanes of traffic.  At the time I was keeping a safe distance away from him, but I decided to switch to the right lane just to be safe.

I checked my blind spot and my side and rear view mirrors to make sure that the right lane was clear for me to move in.  It was clear, so I signaled and changed to the right lane.  As I was fully in the lane but car still at a slight diagonal as I started to straighten out my wheel, a car hit my car on the side on the 2 passenger side doors (Not a direct T-Bone hit, but more of a shearing hit).  The front left part of her bumper/fender area hit my doors.  This car then bounced away from my car, crosses the shoulder on the right, hits the guard rail, and bounces back, stopping in FRONT of my car at around a two car length distance.

First thing is, I definitely did NOT see this car coming when I started to change lanes.  This car either was in the same lane as myself and change to the right lane at the same time, or something else.  I definitely think this car was speeding, as even though the car came from the back, it hit me and stopped in front of my car.  Also, as I mentioned that several of the lanes were closed off, there was a large truck stopped on the right lane a few meters ahead.  The other driver should have seen this and shouldn’t have been driving this fast.

I think what happened was that the car was going really fast, and the driver was not paying attention.  And once she realized that there was a car in front of her, she swerved in the last minute to the shoulder and sliced the side of my car before bouncing to the guard rail.

I need to be able to defend myself when talking to the insurance company, as I think that the other driver is going to say that she was already beside my car and I rammed into her from the side.  There were no witnesses and no proof that she was speeding.  I’m afraid that due to the lack of evidence, they are going to put me at 100% fault.  How should I approach this issue?

Thanks!

Answer
Hi Kit,

Unfortunately, in these situations it's hard to give good advice. I am only reading your side of things.

The best I can tell you is to be truthfull. Don't offer any more information than is asked for and all will work out.

I hope this helps
