Auto Insurance Claims: Theft Recovery, salvage title, rental coverage

Question
My car got stolen on Nov 4, 2006 and they recovered it with some light damages on Dec 1, 2006. I've been driving the rental that my insurance provided me and had to pay the towing fees once i picked up my car. I know that if the car was found after 30 days of it being missing, then it will have a salvage title and i have the option to give the car to the insurance and don't have to keep it nor i have to pay for the rental. since the car got found with the 30 day time period, will i have to pay for the rental and will i get reimburse for the towing and what will insurance do with the damages to the car since most of them are mechanical ones, i mean there is some body damage bust most things are the check engine light is one, my stereo or my clock doesn't' turn on, my clutch is very weak, breaks are gone axles are making noises and the car has been abused mechanical, will they fix mechanic problems too or am i stuck with that car now in that condition since as i understand insurance only fixes body parts?

thank you

Answer
Hi Vadim,

The insurance company will pay to repair the body damage and the mechanical damage. The also should pay the tow bill and the rental car if you have rental coverage on your policy.

Depending on the age and mileage on the vehicle, the insurance company may take betterment on certain mechanical components. These are components that wear out over time and would need to be replaced.  When an insurance company pays to replace these type of parts, they can only use new parts which puts you in a better position than you were in prior to the damage. Therefore, they may make you pay a certain percentage of the cost of these type of parts.

I hope this helps
