Auto Insurance Claims: to claim or not to claim, construction truck, honda civic

Question
I live in a no-fault state. I rear-ended someone on 11/16/06. There was no police report taken. My 1998 Honda Civic took the brunt of the accident, while the person I hit (who was driving a heavy duty van) only received some minor damage to his bumper. The other driver agreed in principal not to get insurance companies involved - and I would pay his deductable. About 2 1/2  months ago, my Honda was hit by a construction truck (other driver's fault) and my insurance company paid about $3000 to fix the car, which had a blue book price of about $3500 at the time.  My insurance company did not raise my rates from that accident because I was not at fault. About 5 years ago I also made a claim to my insurance company on the same Honda when I was the victim of a hit and run in a parking lot. They paid about $1200 on that claim.
Now I am considering whether to make a claim on this accident. Due to the appearance of the car it is very likely that the insurance company will total the car, giving me maybe a $3000 windfall.  However, I am afraid that my premiums will rise enough to offset this payment and eventually cost me more in the long run. Should I not report the car and donate it, thereby saving me the cost on the insurance premium rates? Or can I assume the insurance company will buy me out, basically giving me money towards a new car? what is your recommendation?

Answer
Hi Brad,

You have many questions here. The only one I can answer is if the cost to repair the vehicle is more that 75% of its value they will declare it to be a total loss. If it is totaled, the insurance company will pay you the value of the car less your deductible.

I do not know the policy of your insurance company or if they will raise your rates or by how much if they do. You will need to contact your insurance agent who may be able to answer these questions for you.

I hope this helps.
