Auto Insurance Claims: total loss, kia spectra, salvage title

Question
I had a no fault accident which involved the front end(hood, bumper & headlights). I've been driving my for 2 weeks now no problem, but their insurance co. wants to total out my car. It's a '02 KIA Spectra, so it doesn't hold it's value like Ford or Chevy. The repairs is $3000 and the value is $3000. So, if they write me a check for $3000-650(salvage)=$2350. I would have to come up with $650 to repair my car and get a salvage title. It doesn't seem right that I am inconvenience with time, money and stress over the matter and I put $400 new tires and $400 with new timing belt this year and it is not my fault. Is there anything I can do? I only want my car fixed, it drives great before and after the accident.

Answer
Hi Chuck,

Unfortunately it looks like you will have to let them total it.  The repair estimate is equal to the value of the car. Most insurance companies will total a car when the repairs are at 75% of the value. Also, it is likely that the repair costs will go higher once they start due to hidden damage.

I think you should just let them total it. Don't keep the salvage. Just take the $3000.00 and go buy another car.

I hope this helps
