Auto Insurance Claims: total loss, car value, insurance company

Question
I recently had an accident and the damage to my car is valued at £6300 to repair, the value of the car before the accident was £8995, after speaking to the engineers at the repair center who informed me that the car is repairablr am i entitled to argue that the car be repaired and not written off. The engineers have said the car would be safe if repaired but the insurance company only want to repair if the cost is 65% of the total car value where do i stand on this matter
             thnks Danny

Answer
HI Danny,

Based on the information you have provided, it does sound as if the vehicle should be totaled. Unless you can get the repair shop to sign a contract stating that they will repair the vehicle for just below the 65% figure, the insurance company can decide to total the vehicle out.  The problem is that most of the time, once the repairs have begun, additional hidden damage is discovered that will increase the total cost of repairs. You may be better off to let them total it out.

I hope this helps
