Auto Insurance Claims: Insurance Claim Payment, asnwer, insurance claim

Question
My wife was rear-ended and the driver recieved a ticket for following to closely.  I have '02 Camry and the bumper was damaged and needs replaced.  I DO NOT have a lien on the car and my wife is considering selling/trading it.  Repair costs from (3) estimates average out to around $600.  The at-fault drivers insurance (USAA) stated their insurance would cover the damage.  Do I have to have the repairs accomplished?  If not, can I still get reimbursed and apply the cost to a new vehicle?

Thanks!
John

Answer
The asnwer to your question is YES....

Keep in mind that when you sell/trade in the vehciel that the damage will be more than likely deducted from what would normally be the selling price for an undamaged vehicle...

I see no real UPSIDE to not repairing the vehicle prior to disposition.

Hope and trust that I have answered your question.
