Auto Insurance Claims: AUTO INCIDENT-changed story?, criminal act, criminal offense

Question
I was involved in an accident a few days ago where the other driver said I ran a stop sign. I have no idea whether I did or not and was so shaken during the accident because it was my first one and I was very nearly injured. I told the officer I thought I had stopped completely but now I think I did in fact run the stop sign. If my story to insurance does not match the police report, is this a criminal offense?

Answer
Hi Jerrie,

There is no criminal act here. You told the police officer that you "Thought" you stopped. That leaves room for doubt. Just tell your insurance company that you simply don't remember if you stopped or not. That will take care of it.

I hope this helps
