Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: auto a/c, pressure gauge, air temp

Question
QUESTION: why does my a/c cycle on and off so frequently (30 secs or less) even though the pressure gauge shows there is enough pressure for the current ambient air temp?

ANSWER: It is not unusual for late model systems to frequently cycle depending on ambient air temperature.  Is the system performing ok with regards to inside car temperature?

QUESTION: the system is not cooling even though the ac clutch cycles on and off. the cycle may only last 10 sec. some of the components in the engine compartment chill down and get condensation on them but not inside. with the outside air at 90F the clutch would not stay on. my gauge is reading a good pressure when it is cycling the refrigerant and then jumps up high as it should when the cycle cuts out. your help is much appreciated as this is my wife's veh for trasporting all the kids.

ANSWER: Hi,

Ok lets back up a bit.

A: How exactly have you verified refrigerant level?

B: What are the pressures that are indicating on your gauges when it cycles off.  High and low side please.

QUESTION: I have a dial guage that is part of the hose used when filling w/ refrigerant. When it was 85F-90F and the compressor is off the pressure is
@ 70-75 psi. When cycled on the pressure is @ 50psi. I have no way of knowing the psi of the high pressure line. thank you

Answer
Karl,

What is the year make and model of this vehicle? 50psi for a 134A system is too high to be cycling.  Depending on the year the system may be cycling because of high high side pressures or a defective transducer.

Sorry for late replies.  This is my busy season and its 40d Celcius outside.  I will get around to answering every question but it may take me a few hours. I typically book 12-15 cars a day right now and its getting overwhelming.  Many electrical problems and difficult to find leaks!
