Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: 1998 chevy c1500/ no heater, engine thermostat, chevy c1500

Question
I have a 1998 Chevy c1500 pickup truck. I have 136000 miles on it. My question is, I have no heat. I have changed the climate control panel and still have no heat. I can change the speed of the air, the air conditioner works and I can change the direction of the air from front to floor to window defroster. But no heat. Please, any help in this matter would be appreciated. Thank you.

Answer
Do you have water in your radiator and is the engine thermostat working?
Check your radiator/expansion tank for levels.

There will be two hoses visible on the bulkhead heading in to the car under the bonnet, are they both hot or is one cold?
Test all the water hoses in and out of the radiator and either side of the thermostat, are they hot ?
If you can test all this then we know that there is hot water flowing right round the system including the heater matrix.
Cold anywhere is a sign of restriction at the point where you find it, you may also have a hot water valve on one of the hose leading in through the bulkhead, if it exists it may be sticking preventing hot water passing through the matrix.

It doesn't sound as if any of the flaps are sticking around your heater controls so I suspect there is not hot water in the matrix

I am sorry that I cannot be more specific but we are a UK based company with no access to information specific to your vehicle, do take care to secure all loose clothing prior to leaning over your hot engine, in particular round the radiator fan ! I have lost a few ties this way.......
