Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: G.M. A/C blows warm air., compressor clutch, pressure switch

Question
Hi there, the A/C on my van blows warm air. I attempted to recharge it with a DIY R134 kit and the compressor clutch would not kick on. I jumpered the pressure switch and the clutch engaged. I attempted to recharge again but it still blows warm, gauge reads 50 p.s.i., clutch only stays engaged while jumpered. What should I do next? Should it blow cool when the clutch is engaged? I only used one can of Freon because the gauge was close to the red zone. Are there fuses, relays I should test?

Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hi Lee

When your system is off you should have a reading of about 100 psi.  When you jump your switch your system pressure should drop.  If your system is not at 100 psi off then you do not have enough pressure for switch to engage.  If your sysstem drops then your switch is bad but you should also get cool to cold air at 50 psi.  If it is at 50 psi and it does not move then your compressor is not pumping and must be repalced.
