Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: 1999 ford escort air conditioning, clutch plate, pressure switch

Question
QUESTION: I have replaced the compressor and clutch. I can not get the clutch to engage. I'm getting power to and from the low pressure switch and getting power to the high pressure switch. I get 10 VDC to the clutch itself. I have put one can of freon in the system. I don't know what to do next.

ANSWER: Hi Rick

If you are getting power to the clutch coil and it still does not engage.  You may have gapped the clutch plate too far off of the pulley.

QUESTION: The clutch and compressor came already put together.  If I run 12 VDc from the battery to the clutch it engages, but doesn't cool.

Answer
Make sure you have pressure in your system. If you have pressure of 60 psi or more check for power at the cycling switch located at the accumulator/drier.  If you have power on one side and not on the other your cycling switch is bad (you must have pressure in system to close circuit).  If power goes in and out then you may have the module located under the battery bad.
