Thanks again for this detailed information,now that I have a starting point is there a website I can get schematic drawings on this a/c vacuum actuator. Where it is located and also how it comes apart to replace.This is a project car of mine and I try to be a do-it-yourselfer

The online site I use is called ondemand5. It is ran by Mitchell and is very thorough. But it does cost a good bit for a subscription.
There are others out there that you can pay for a one-time use or a one-vehicle use. A popular one is alldatadiy.com, another being chiltondiy.com. Or you may even look through some of the MANY vette forums online. I have used these quite a bit for specific quirks that my subscription service didn't answer, and have never came up empty. If you try these sources and still come up empty, or need help translating some information you get, I'll be more than happy to help.
