Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: Air conditioning in my 2000 Chevy Cavalier, 2000 chevy cavalier, chevy cavalier

Question
When I run my air conditioning in my car I get a lot of water on my drivers side front and passenger side rear floor.  I have also noticed it under the drivers seat.  What could be causing this?

Answer
Laura,
As the hot air from the cab gets carried across your evaporator, the heat and humidity in the air sticks to the cold surface. The heat gets absorbed and carried through your system to the condensor, the humidity sticks to the evaporator and rolls off. This is normal occurrence. This condensed humidity usually runs down the evaporator, goes through a drain tube and runs out of the vehicle through the floorboard. This is why you see puddles of water under vehicles in parking lots when they have their a/c running.
Yours is not running out of the cab because, if you look, I anticipate you will see that your drain hose connecting from the evaporator housing to the floorboard is either missing, has come disconnected from the housing, or is plugged up. If you look uder the passenger side dashboard you will see a black box. This is your evaporator housing, follow it to its lowest point and you will see the drain tube I am referring to. Or if you dont see it, then it is missing, and you will see a "nipple" where it connects to on the housing. If the hose is there, disconnect it from the housing and blow high pressure air through the tube. Take care you do not snap the "nipple" however.
The other possibility is that your housing is cracked, and the moisture is dripping through this crack before it gets to the drain tube. If this is the case, a little bit of epoxy and a black marker will do wonders.
And the third possibility is that your heater core is leaking. I don't anticipate this though, otherwise you would be able to smell the antifreeze, and being that you did not mention this I won't get into it.
But the clenaing out of hte drain tube is something you should be able to do on your own, no need to take it somewhere and pay money to do it. Just be careful of that nipple.

Thank you for the question, I hope I was of some assistance. If I can do anything further during this process, or in the future, please do not hesitate to ask. If you found this response to be of some assistance, please remember to rate this answer. Thanks again and good luck in everything.
