Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: Ford Contour 1996, AC, ford contour, compressor clutch

Question
Hey David, I am Rabin. I have Ford Contour 1996, I don't know what is the problem on my AC. When I turn on AC, it only blow air but not the cool air, and max AC gives the maximum air but no cool air. What do you think the problem is and how much I have to spend to repair it.
Thank you
Rabin

Answer
Rabin,
This tells me that your compressor clutch is not engaging. This could be caused a a wide range of possibilities. Everywhere from you just having a leak in the system and need to have it recharged, to your compressor clutch being shot and needing replaced.
A quick check...
Locate your low pressure switch. On the 96 contour, this is located on your low lide refrigerant line near the front left of the engine compartment. It will have a purple wire with an orange stripe, and a solid purple wire connecting to it with a plug. Disconnect this plug. With the key in the run position (engine off) and the a/c on... with an insulated wire jump the terminals in the harness plug. You should hear your clutch "snap" as it engages. If it does, what this tells me is that you probably have a leak in your system that has caused a low refrigerant charge. You should have this repaired and then charged back up. If it does not Snap together, then something else is going on in your wiring. I can walk you through a couple basic checks if needed, but in order to do this, you will need a multimeter or test light and a basic understanding of how electrical systems work. If you want me to do this just let me know.

Thank you for your question, I hope that I was of some assistance. If I can do anything further now or in the future, do not hesitate to ask. Thank you again, good luck in everything, and please remember to rate this answer.
