Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: car ac, mechanical skills, johnn

Question
my car ac  really doesn't work. my kid turned it on and now there smoke coming out and coolant coming out on the passenger side. and the ac sounds like it still on. what's wrong with it and how much around would it cost 2 fix? the car i got is a 1976 monte carlo

Answer
Johnn,
Is it smoke, steam from the coolant, or refrigerant vapor?
If you have coolant coming out, then your evaporator housing is going to have to be removed anyways, becasue the heater core and the evaporator is in the same housing with your blower motor. If you have some mechanical skills, you should be able to do the replacement yourself. If you take it to a shop, I anticipate around 4-600 dollars. After parts and labor.
