Help ?

Answer
Larry,
Ok, I spoke with the other instructors at the schoolhouse, and they all say the same thing. This is virtually impossible on a good compressor. The only thing we can come up with is that maybe you happened to get the one shot in a billion of the new compressor being bad for the same reason the old was. Or maybe there was a bad line of compressors that came out, and you received one from that bunch. Because on a good compressor, with a good clutch and everything mounted the way it should be, this is impossibe.
Inside the clutch is a coil. This coil acts like a stator in a generator. It stands steady regardless of how the rotor (in this case the shaft) is spinning. For some reason yours is wanting to move. This could be a broken mount that the coil sits on. Regardless, this is a bad compressor clutch. You definately need a new one.
When you take it off, bench test it. Hook a positive wire to it, either from your battery or a power supply and ground it so your clutch is engaged. Then turn it by hand. Does it do the same thing? I am betting it will.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but you need to take that compressor back to where you got it and get a new one. It should be returnable, being that it never even made it into operation.
Also, get with Mitsubishi, and see if they had a series of these bad compressors that made it onto the market.
Ok, thanks for the question, and if I can be of any service in the future, please let me know.
