Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: air conditioning unit on a 1998 buick regal, buick regal, independent child

Question
My daughter has a 1998 buick regal and the a/c is not working. As a single working mom, she is trying to fix it herself by possibly putting in freon, however she does not know where the refrigerant area is under the hood. I applaud her for trying to fix this by herself. I hope you can help her SOON...............Thank you.

Answer
Cecilia,
I applaud your daughter for putting forth the effort.
She has 2 fittings on her car. One for the low side and one for the High side. Generally, they are in a reasonably accessible area, and shouldn't be too difficult to locate. In order to find these she will need to trace her lines from the compressor. Her low side port will be on the line leading towards the cab of the vehicle, the high side will be on the line leading to or from the condensor which is in front of her radiator. If they have never been messed with before, they should have caps on them, and if she is lucky they will be color coded. Blue for low, Red for High. If the caps are black, they may have an L or an H on them. But either way, the low side fitting will be smaller in girth than the high side.
From there, she will just need to follow the instructions on the can she bought.
And may I applaud you for raising an independent child. If more parents raised them they way that we have the world would be in a much better position. (I had both of my sons rebuilding engines at the age of 8) :)
I hope I was able to help a little, and if you need more info, feel free to ask. Thank you for the question
