Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: a/c, jetta vw, reputable service

hello my a/c works like this when i put the blower switch on 1 or 2 it turns the compresor on, but blows no air. and  when i put it on 3 or 4 theblower goes on but compresor shuts off oh sorry its a 1998 jetta vw

??????? That is very odd. It sounds as though your control head is going bad. It seems to have a loose connection internally or on the plug coming out. That loose connection is shorting over to another wire and shutting off the compressor or fan when it shouldn't be. My recommendation is to take it to a reputable service shop or even, dare I say it. the dealer *shiver* to have them troubleshoot it. I am sorry but I can't do too much over this site to help you out with this type of problem. But my guess is that they will replace your control head, and you will be working fine shortly after.
