Question
PLEASE help.....94 chevy Silverado,350,auto,ext cab.....200,000 miles....lately when truck started/shut down a loud "clacking" sound coming from area of heater core/glove box. I removed glove box liner, only to find problem deeper in duct"or wherever"....sounds like a vent flap inside duct keeps "trying "to open/close but  for some reason is stuck/sticking?...BUT I cannot figure out how this can occur after ignition is shut off?If I leave it can it damage any relay in system?it lasts 30-40 seconds EVERY time truck starts/shut down. Please respond, or advise who to ask...its got me nuts...thank you for time

Answer
Chris,

Wow -- how about this for irony? My name is Chris, and I have a '94 Chevy Silverado that had the exact same problem. The noise is coming from the Recirculation Door actuator, behind the glove box. This actuator controls the door position for either fresh air or recirculation. You can get it replaced, or you can unplug it (it stops clacking, but stays on fresh air -- no recirc). I don't recommend unplugging anything on any car, but other than no recirc, it's not adversely affecting anything. Whatever you decide, good luck!
