Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: 98 Explorer AC Turns Off When Accelerating, engine rpms, ford explorer

Question
I have a 98 Ford Explorer, V6, 4WD - When the car is initally cranked the AC seems to work fine - blower works, cold air, etc. If the car is left idling for an extended period, ie 30 minutes, the AC usually continues to function normally. However, if I begin to drive and accelerate into traffic, or stop at a light and begin again, many times the compressor seems to cycle off and the unit begins to put out warm air. The blower continues to operate normally. The compressor will usually not cycle back on until the car is turned off and re-cranked. Does this sound like something that I can diagnose/repair or should I seek professional help?

Thanks,

Answer
HI STEVE,UNLESS YOU HAVE A SET OF SERVICE GAUGES I`D RECOMMEND AN A/C SHOP.IT SOUNDS LIKE THERE MAY BE A RESTRICTION AT HIGHER ENGINE RPMS AND THAT MAY CUT OFF THE COMPRESSOR.DO IT ASAP,BEACAUSE THE COMPRESSOR CAN STARVE FOR LUBRICATION AND DO DAMAGE INTERNALLY..

GOOD LUCK
