Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: 98 Plymouth Grand Voyager A/C runs hot at high engine temps, plymouth grand voyager, radiator cooling fans

Question
1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager. 115,000 miles. Just had freon
added.

We noticed on a long trip that when the engine temperature
edged above the midway point, the A/C started blowing hot.

The cold air would shut off for 1 minute, then run cold for 2.
Then it got worse. Off for 5 minutes on for 1. Off for 30
minutes. On for 30 seconds. You could hear when the
compressor (?...something?) kicked back on. Toward the end of
the trip, I definitely noticed a correlation with engine
temperature. Any idea why that is and how to fix it?

Thanks!

(By the way, at night and when it was raining, the A/C ran fine;
similarly, in the morning, before the day heated up, the A/C ran
fine.)

Answer
SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE SOME RESTRICTION OF FLOW IN THE HIGH SIDE. BE SURE YOUR RADIATOR COOLING FANS ARE WORKING AND THE THERMOSTAT IS FULLY OPENED.A HOT COOLING SYSTEM CAN AFFECT THE A/C PERFORMANCE.YOU NEED TO GET TO AN A/C SHOP THE DO A PRESSURE PERFORMANCE TEST...FULL CHARGE A/C WILL RUN 20-30PSI ON THE LOW SIDE AND 180-210 PSI ON THE HIGH SIDE @1200 RPM IN PARK..IF IT`S NOT IN THAT RANGE YOU GOT ISSUES..

GOOD LUCK,DAVIDT
