Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: After market a/c problem, reostat, expansion valves

Question
1958 Chevy.  I purchased an after market a/c from Classic Auto Air a couple of years ago.  The car only sees about 2,000 miles a year and the a/c is used maybe 1200 miles.  Recently I am having a problem with the temperature.  It will run nice and cold for a while then the air gets warm.  What is causing the air to get warm?

Answer
Hello Howard, Two things you need to check. First, check if the reostat is set to max cold.Second, you need to hook-up the service gauges and get a reading as the a/c is running.Sometimes expansion valves on those kits may be binding because of the lack of usage. You should make a schedule on running the vehicle w/ a/c on at least once a week for 20min. Lack of usage can get you problems with seals and gaskets on all areas of the drivetrain;including the a/c.You put alot of time and money into the car and i would advise running as much as possible.I need those readings from the low & high lines to give you an idea what`s going on.
