Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: 1997 Toy T-100 Weak A/C, sight glass, freon

Question
You're right I charged it on the low side where it comes out of the firewall. I did a little more seaching and traced the lines through the cooler and to a cylander that has a sight glass on the top. When the A/C is on there is a milky white substance flowing through the sight glass and when the A/C is off there is nothing going through it. Does this help any more and is this normal? Also is there an easy access to the heat door? I'm thinking it might not be shutting all the way.

Thank you.

Thanks for the reply. I mean the temp Coming out of the vents are bad. The blower works just fine. I added less than 1/2 a can of freon and that brought the gauge up to the green level[cheap gauge just said low, geen for ok and red for danger]. I put the freon in the high side with the motor running and the A/C on. The air door seems to work when I switch it from hot to cold there is a noticable temp change but the air conditioning won't cool off the interior of the truck.

I have a T-100 that has always had a weak a/c. I am the original owner as of this year I now have know a/c I added some r-13a and it seems to be holding it. Are there any sensors that may have gone bad or never been very good?

Answer -
Hello tim, When you say weak, do you mean air thru the vents are weak or temp coming out of vents? How much freon did you add and when was the first time it was charged?
Write back asap.

Hi Tim,Well first of all, you can`t charge the a/c on the high side.Only on the LOW SIDE.If you look at the compressor, there are tow tubings coming out,the larger one is the low side. Look for the service valve to connect.Be careful, you can damage the a/c or get hurt from bursting the freon can. From the sound of things at this point, you may have a couple of issues going on.I would recommend reclaim the entire system/replace the filter/add 2oz of refrigerant oil and evacuate and recharge 2.25lbs of r134.
Without having proper pressure reading from gauges it`s difficult to figure out what`s happening with you truck. Those gauges you have don`t tell me what I need to know-sorry.  Good luck, davidt

Answer
Hi tim, If it`s milky looking, tha`ts water in the system.the whole system needs to be flushed and the filter replaced and 2oz of oil when time to recharge.Evcuate the system for at least 1hr. before charging.Water can mess up the freon and cause corrosion. As for the heater door, you may be able to view the cable that is attached to lever of the door.See if you can locate and remove the cable end and try to move the door lever as if you were closing and open it.You may be able to see movement if someone else can move the hot / cold handle as you watch.

good luck,davidt
