Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: Retro fit A/C R12 to R134a, r12 to r134a, dodge caravan

Question
Mr. Texeira;
 We have a 90' Dodge Caravan 2.5L with Turbo and had the A/C retro fitted from R12 to R134a.Could that cause the engine to run hotter than normal? Without the air it runs 190,but when the A/C is on it runs 210 and up.

Answer
Hello Vick, Your temp reading is within a normal range. r134 runs alittle hotter temp off the a/c condenser.Also remember, that system wasn`t designed for r134 so your psi and tempertures may vary.Todays vehicles, their engines with a/c on,  run around 200 to 230deg. and thats normal. Your radiator/condenser cooling fans may not be pulling enough air thru to keep the system cool because of the different refrigerant being used now. Just in case, do check that your radiator and cooling system is flowing good too and not overheating.

Good luck, Davidt
