Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: Auto Air Conditioning, auto air conditioning, condenser fans

Question
Hello,
I have a '93 plymouth grand caravan. Even though it was blowing cold air the compressor ran all the time and the electric fan cyles on and off breifly (on for a few seconds then off for a few seconds). When the fan turns on the psi drops to about 35#s and when it turns off the psi goes up to 45#s. I bled some of the R134a out from the low side until it read 30#s. It came out as an oily/foamy substance. Is this normal? Ever since I droped the psi to 30#s it does not get cold at all so I added some R134a and brought it back to where it was at 45#s and it still does not get cold at all. Did I let oil out? What are your suggestions? Thanks!

Answer
Hello Harry,The vans a/c system condenser fans cycle on and off as designed by Chrys. There is a possiblity that the compressor is not pumping as much psi.The highside reading should be 190 to 205psi and low side at 25 to 30psi at 1000rpm. If this is not happening you could have blockage within the system and or defective expansion block valve.
Oil will come out as what happened with you. Be carefull not to overcharge the a/c. It can cause damage.

Good luck, davidt
