Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: air conditioning not cool, gmc yukon, jumper wire

Question
I have a 1996 GMC Yukon and the A/C has stopped blowing cold. The compressor engages about every two or three seconds. I topped off the R134a but it did not help. The clutch engages and stays engaged when I put a jumper wire on it, but it still blows hot air. Does this sound like the compressor is bad or do you think that there might be a clogged up line.

Answer
Hello Aaron, Sounds like you may lost the compressor. They usually last about 75k miles. I would recommend the system be flushed before any parts are added. Inspect the orifice tube for metal debris. If there is alot of metal there, the compressor is history. I recommend a new and not a reman compressor because of poor quality. That compressor can be a nightmare if you know what I mean. Make no short cuts if you can afford it,cause they will come back. When flushing,a/c shops use shop pressure and a special type of a/c flushing solvent and flush gun. This I would have a a/c shop do. If its not done right its their fault.

Good luck,Davidt
