Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: Pressure switch plug, receiver dryer, o clock

Question
I have a 1995 Tahoe that has had the "dryer can" replaced last fall.  They also replaced a pressure switch.  I don't know if it is the high or low pressure switch, but it sticks out of the side of the canister at about 4 o'clock looking down from above and the bumper being 6 o'clock.
The ac worked fine until a couple of weeks ago when it began to only work intermittently.  I took a look at it and found that the pressure switch mentioned above was the culprit.  Acutally the plug going into the switch seems to have a short.  If I wiggle the wires the compressor will cut on and off.
After messing with it for a few minutes I think it is in a position where it will work. It works fine, but the compressor seems to cycle on and off.

I have two questions.
1. is it normal for the compressor to cycle on and off?
2. how feasable would it be to replace the plug/wire myself?

I am fairly mechanically inclined, I have just never worked on ac systems.

Answer
1. YES, The compressor MUST cycle ON and OFF.

2. unplug the sensor at the receiver/dryer ("dryer can") and spread the 2 electrical contacts on the switch out ward a little bit and plug the wire back on the switch and see if it now makes the compressor cyle ON and OFF.

If you want to change the plug, Go ahead.
