Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: AC compressor shuts down on hot days, electronic leak detector, 1997 buick skylark

Question
We have a 1997 Buick Skylark that has been into the shop several times for leaking freon problems.
They cannot find the source of the leak. That put  some dye into the system but it showed nothing. They gave the car back to us. Now on really hot days, the compressor does not seem to come on, and it blows just hot air. When the temperature outside becomes a bit cooler, like below 85 degrees, the AC Compressor comes on and blows ice cold air.Is there a sensor that could be causing this? Why is the compressor shutting down on hot days?  Thank you PS I think it must still have plenty of freon as it really cools the car when it works. It is not cycling, it just plain doesnt work when the temperaute is in the 90's.

Answer
Wherever you are taking your vehicle to find this leak apparently does not have the special ELECTRONIC LEAK DETECTOR that is necessary in order to locate your leak OR they do not want to spend the time and effort to search for it.

The most common problem with the ac shutting off during high temperature days is caused by overcharging of the system by putting to much freon in the system.

there is a delicate balance that MUST be performed when adding freon. To much or to little will cause the compressor to not run. In your case there is most likely to much freon in the system and when the outside temp gets hot, the pressure within the ac system exceeds the maximum pressure due to expansion of the gases of the freon due to the high temp and the sensor shuts down the compressor.

There is a 20 page diagnostic chart that you can follow and perform the test procedures. BUT this all experts board of which is NOT mine does not allow pictures or e-mail to be sent in this manner.
