Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: A/C replacement?, vacuum pump, condensor

Question
I own a 1995 camaro with a 3.4 liter v6 with 120,000,miles on it,my a/c compressor locked up and the repair shop wants to replace everything, not just the compressor. Is this what must be done or are they wanting to put in the newer system just to charge me more?

Answer
Once a compressor locks up it dispurses small metallic and aluminum debris throughout the entire A/C system and just about every part should be replaced. However the most common parts to be replaced are:

1. Compressor.

2. Accumulator.

3. Orifice tube (expansion valve).

4. Flush out all the lines as well as the condensor and evaporator.

5. Install new refrigerant oil.

6. Evacuate the system with a vacuum pump.

7. recharge the system with freon.
