Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: GM air conditioning compressor, gran prix 3, air conditioning compressor

Question
I am replacing the a/c compressor on a 97 Gran Prix, 3.8 L engine. How much oil, Castrol PAC 150, should be left in the new compressor. I will need to use the car right away , but it will be a couple of days before I can have the system recharged.

Answer
You Do NOT simply install a new compressor and recharge the system.


1. You have to remove the accumulator, the compressor and the orifice tube (expansion valve.

2. Flush ALL the lines with an A/C flushing agent.

3. Install the correct amount of refrigerant oil into each A/C component per the manufacturers specifications.

4. You have to install a new accumulator, orifice tube and compressor and necessay "O" rings and seals.

5. Evacuate the system using a vacuum pump.

6. Check for any LEAKS.

7. recharge the A/C system with the correct amount of freon per the manufacturers specifications.
