Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: auto air conditioning failure, auto air conditioning, reed valves

Question
My car is a 2001 Honda Civic LX. It has 41,000 miles on it. The air conditioner doesn't work.....air will blow out of the vents when I turn the AC on but it is not cold air. I had it examined and was told that it was low on refrigerant which was replaced.  The air conditioner worked for about 3 hours and now no longer works again. The technician informed me that he was getting "erratic readings" even though it seemed to work after the refrigerant was replaced and he wasn't sure if it was really fixed for good. Can you tell me what the real problem might be?
Thank you.

Answer
Without seeing what these ERRATIC readings ARE, It is very difficult to make a diagnosis. If this technician cannot tell you what is wrong by looking at the gages, He is not that familiar or experienced in A/C repair.

It could be:

1. A faulty orfice tube (expansion valve).

2. A problem with the REED VALVES in the A/C compressor.

3. AIR in the system.

4. To much freon or refrigerant oil in the syatem.

5. A fault within the accumulator (receiver/drier).

The GAGES are what tell you WHERE the problem is, ONLY if you know how to read the gages to make the diafnosis.

Personally, I would seek another opinion as to what is wrong with your system via a different A/C repair facility..
