Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: a/c charge pressures, subaru outback, 134a

Question
Hello,
I ave a 1997 subaru outback that does not put out very cool air (A/C) and needs a charge.

What are the approximate ranges of the low vs high pressure side. If I put too much 134a in the system, what would be the indicators.

Thanks,

Tom B

Answer
Pressure are dependent upon outside temperature and humidity. Normal range at 70 degrees of outside temp would be 250 high side 70 low side.

You should evacuate the air from the system using avacuum pump BEFORE you try and recharge it.

OVERCHARGE can cause compressor damage or hoses explosion or  the HIGH PRESSURE BLOW OFF SWITCH will activate and dump the excess freon from the system.
