Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: Air Conditioning, 2001 mercury sable, electrical harnesses

I have a 2001 Mercury Sable and the air conditioner will cool but blows only through the defroster, top and bottom, rather than the usual vents for the air.  What would be the problem and the approximate cost for repairing it?  Have had no problems with it before.

What you have is a classic example of a broken or cracked vacuum line coming from the engine compartment thru thr firewall and into the A/C-Heater controller.


Look under the hood near the back of the engine for a small black plastic tube that might or might not be combined within the electrical harnesses that run thru the firewall and find the broken plastic or sometimes rubber vacuum line and fix it.
