Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: Frequent Air Conditioner Cycling 2005 Jeep, jeep wrangler, timex watch

Question
Hi,  I accidentally left my air conditioner running when I went off roading with my 2005 Jeep Wrangler.   Some of the off road conditions were severe.    Anyway,  I have noticed a much more frequent cycling of the air condtioner and surging of the engine.  Everything else seems to be working fine.  It still blows cold air,  but the engine's frequent  surging has made me worry a little bit that I damaged the A/C unit compressor.  Help?

Answer
NO you did NOT damage the A/C compressor, They are like a TIMEX WATCH.

Most likely you developed a LEAK within the closed A/C system and this releases the freon from the sytem and starts to cyle the compressor rapidly ON and OFF. You can try and add ONE CAN of freon to the LOW PRESSURE SIDE of the system and see if your compressor goes back to normal, But you will eventually have the same problem re-occur when the freon starts to leak out again.

You need to locate, Fix, evacuate the system and recharge it for it to work properly so you don't have to keep adding freon every other week or so, depending upon how bad the leak is.
