Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: A/C High pressure in low pressure line, compressor clutch, drawing power

Question
I have a 2000 Montana that the a/c isn't working in this summer.  I can engage my a/c and it is definately drawing  power from the engine.  I hooked up a gauge to the low pressure port and it was quickly up into the red danger level.  I was wonder if it is the compressor, clutch or maybe even some debris clogging something in the system.

Answer
Are you POSITIVE that youi are hooked onto the LOW port and not the HIGH port ?.

You really need a set of A/C gages to see EXACTLY what your LOW and HIGH side pressures are.

If in fact you have HIGH low side pressure this would most likely be a restriction in the orfice tube (expansion valve).
