Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: buick a/c, buick lesabre, oone

Question
I understand the start up heat that occurs.  This is different in that after driving and the car is cool, I can stop at a convenience store, park in the shade, go in and get a quick coke and when I start the car back up, the air is "room temp" and then gets hot as if it was heated, then begins to cool.  I also noticed yesterday that sometimes the 2 vents on the passenger side are blowing hot air when the 2 vents on the driver side is blowing cold air.  This doesn't alwas occur but sometimes.  And the air that is not cold is acutally hot the same as when it gets hot at start up.  I have seperate passenger controls for the temp but changing them doesn't seem to make a difference.

thanks
Rodney

I have a '95 buick lesabre and everytime I start the car the a/c blows hot air for about 30-45 seconds.  The air is definitly hot even if the a/c has been been running prior to restarting.  Also, when the car starts up, the outside temp indicator flashes for a while.  Any help would be appreciated.

thanks

I don't see any problem here. It takes TIME for the A/C to build up. Temperature of the day as well as humidity drastically effect the efficiency of the A/C system. You will NEVER get INSTANT cold air for at least 30 seconds prior to starting the system.

Answer
Answering questions is extremly difficult when you do nOT provide ALL of the information that you are experiencing.

OK, In this case your most likely suspect is that there is a fault with oone of the MODE DOORS of which are either VACUUM or ELECTRICALLY operated and what is happening is that the mode door is opening allowing heater core air to enter into the ducts thus causing your HOT AIR problem.

These mode doors require an electrical schematic and a vacuum schematic along with visual pictures to show you exactly what to test and how to test it.

Unfortunately I do not have a Buick servcie manual in order to e-mail you the required information.

Your only resolution is to have your dealer look at the problem as they have the service manuals.

A CHILTONS, HAYNES or other GENERIC book will NOT provide the specific information required to test your system. You need the actual manufacturers service manual.
