Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: coolant loss, coolant loss, waterpump

hi i have a 97 grand am 2.4 twin cam with no air, its leaking from the back part of thew engine i was thinking the waterpump and i was wondering how bad is it to take one off on these engines? if the timing chain has to come off or  you can get it from underneath on a hoist ?  exhaust has to come of as well??  thanks its a major disruptance i need a vehicle or can't make any money work is too far away to bike and i don't take buses ( just spoiled i guess)
