Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: ac compressor blowing oil, chevy pickup, excessive oil

Question
I was trying to charge the system on my 1976 chevy pickup.  We did a conversion to R134a and the proper amount of oil was added to the compressor, but the refigerent cans that I was told to use also had oil in them.  Now the check valve on the back of the compressor is blowing oil out.  Is it okay to let the excess oil be blown out of the check valve, or is there a way to let some of the excess oil out of the system without loosing refigerent.  I just don't want to harm the system.  Thanks for the help.

Answer
You have WAY to much oil in the system and you WILL destroy the A/C compressor due to this excessive oil in it.

You need to REMOVE all the oil from the compressor and from the accumulator and re-install the correct amount of R-134 oil and R-134 refrigerant.

The amount of oil and refrigerant that you install must be EXACT or you will have A/C problems.

I STRONGLY suggest at this point that you BITE THE BULLET nad have a reputable A/C facility who has the gages and knowledge of how much oil and freon to install in the system.

That valve is a HIGH PRESSURE POP OFF valve that vents excessive system pressure.
