Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: dakota a.c. problem, dodge dakota sport, compressor clutch

Question
Hello. I own a 98 dodge dakota sport. The a.c. stopped blowing cold air so I put a gague on the low side to check refrigerant level. The gague read 30 p.s.i. I thought this was low so in my ignorance I added more 134a & overfilled the system to approx. 80 p.s.i. I can now hear a leak when I remove the dust cap on the low side. The level has dropped to approx. 35 p.s.i. on the low side, but I'm still not getting any cold air. the compressor & clutch seem to be working fine, but no water is draining from the system. Do you think I dmaged the system when I overfilled it? Thanx for your advice, & any tips u can give me.

Answer
Your LUCKY that the can did not explode in your hand.

If the accumulator (receiver/drier is COLD to the touch your problem is most likely with the DAMPER DOOR controller of which blocks off the heater core thus preventing heat from entering the air ducts when you are on A/C.

What mechanical work or ANY kind of work has been performed on the vehicle recently ?. As most problems that occur after a recent repair was made can be traced back to the area of where the repair was made as a vacuum line may have been knocked loose or a wire connection came loose, Look around in the area where work was performed..

There IS a possibility that you may have damaged the compressor but only a qualified A/C facility with a set of manifold (A/C) gages can test the system and advise you.
