Hello.  Thanks.
I believe that the ac system in the vehicle has lost some pressure and some R134.  It doesn't seem to cool as well and there is often a hissing (equalization?) noise when the ac is running.  What are your suggestions?  I am considering adding x? oz of refrigerant, but I don't want to overpressurize the system.  Condenser and evap coils are clean, no visible or uv leaks so far.
Thanks.

There is no EXACT way of knowing how much freon to add unless you have a set of manifold (A/C) gages attached to the system. Overcharging the system can damage the compressor and burst hoses.

STRONLY recommend that a reputable facility put gages on the system and to see WHERE the lost freon WENT using an electronic leak detector.

Thanks.  Aren't gages dependent on ambient temperature, humidity, etc?  Thought only way to know was to put refrigerant in by weight to what system was designed for.  I will take your suggestion and go to a local shop.  Thanks again.

Answer
To SOME degree "gages are dependent on ambient temperature, humidity, etc.

However, Pressures are also elevated and or decreased depending upon how MUCH FREON OIL (refrigerant oil) is in the system.

IF there is to MUCH or NOT enough freon OIL in the system pressures will be different.

GAGE pressures are the most efficient way of knowing what the HIGH and LOW sides are at.
