Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: noise for 5 minutes on start up on Dodge Intrepid, air conditioner compressor, power steering pump

Question
I just bought a 2002 Dodge Intrepid.   When I first start it up, it will make this noise, after start up one minute, located under the hood at the front right of the car.   We believe that this is where the air conditioner compressor is located. My husband thinks that it might sound like a bearing in the compressor.   This noise will go away after about five minutes that the car warms up.   Also, we are not running the air conditioner.  I think,  but I am just a woman, that it wouldn't be the compressor because we are not running the air.   Would like some kind of answer before I take it and let it overnight.  Do not want to get ripped off.  Thanking you in advance for any kind of response   Kathi

Answer
Without hearing this noise it could be anything. It could be just a belt or it could be a bearing in the:

1. A/C compressor
2. the water pump.
3. the power steering pump.
4. The alternator.
5. The idler pulley.
6. the serpentine belt tensioner.

Try spraying some aerosol BELT DRESSING, Available at any auto parts store, on the belt(s) the night before you park the vehicle and see if the noise is gone in the morning.
