Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: A/C, 1985 honda prelude, honda prelude

Question
I have been told the Evaporator Core in my 1985 Honda Prelude is leaking. Where is it located in the car and can I replace it myself? Or am I better off having a shop switch the car over to R-132?
Thanks

Answer
Replacing the core is NOT an easy task to do as there are numerous vacuum hoses, electrical connections, hidden screws and bolts and very precise adjustments that MUST be made after the core is replaced. you also MUST replace he RECEIVER/DRIER (accumulator).

Also you need to evacuate the air from the A/C system using a vacuum pump, You need to know EXACTLY how much freon and refrigerant oil to add for the conversion from the old freon and you need a set of A/C gages so you can be POSITIVE that you have the EXACT high and LOW side pressures needed to operate the A/C efficiently.

I do NOT recommend that you tackle this project.
