My 1988 TownCar will blow air but, no heat.  I am a novis
mechanic.  Can this be repaired without going to the shop?
Also, Could this be a heaterbox door problem? I recently
had a waterpump, thermostat and smog pump installed.

Thank you

WHY was the thermostst replaced ?. Did you have HEAT prior to changing the thermostat ?.

The car was overheating all of the time and leaking lots of water.  So I paid a mechanic to

Answer
When a vehicle overheats the weak spot is the head gasket area between the combustion chambers and the coolant chambers. This overheating usually most always breaks the seal between these 2 chambers and thus causes combustion chambre pressure into the coolant chambers which will CEASE coolant flow.

A coolant system pressure test using special equipment si required here.
