Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: 2000 Chevy Blazer fan not working, blower motor resistor, 30 amp fuse

Question
I have a 2000 Chevy Blazer. Today when I started the car, there is no fan and this is quite a problem when it is -30 outside! While driving to work the fan came on 2 minutes before I got to my destination. This afternoon, however, I couldn't get the fan to turn on in heat or A/C. Thanks! I'm freezing up here in Saskatchewan!

Answer
OK,

Take a test light and probe the PURPLE wire at the 2 wire electrical connector on the blower motor and attach the alligator clip to a ground source OTHER than on the blower motor casing. Does the test light illuminate in ANY speed setting ?.

If it DOES. attach a jumper wire from the blower motor metal casing to a good metal ground source, Does the test light illuminate and the blower operate ?.

If it DOES, You have a bad ground circuit at the BLACK wire at he blower motor connector.

If you have NO light illumination in either of the above tests: loacte the blower motor relay that is usually monuted on the firewall about 6 inches to the right of the blower motor towards the center of the firewall. There should be 4 or 5 relays on a bracket. Your relay should be the closest one to the blower motor. and has the following wire colors:

terminal 30 = PURPLE which goes to the blower motor.

Terminal 85 = BLACK which goes to GROUND.

terminal 86 = Orange which goes to the control panel in
             the vehicle.

terminal 87 = Orange which goes to a 30 amp fuse that has
             battery voltage at ALL times.

terminal 87A = DARK BLUE which goes to the BLOWER MOTOR
              RESISTOR.

let me know if this helps you diagnostics.
