Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: 99 Ford Escort heater control, haynes book, heater cable

I have a 1999 Ford Escort which belongs to my daughter and recently the heater failed to heat.  Thinking it was a blocked heater core, I flushed the cooling system but did not change the problem.  This Escort has the weird heater control+radio assembly.  I removed the heater control+radio and found the heater cable terminated in a round connector connected to --nothing!  I struggled for an hour to find something to hook it to behind the radio.  My Haynes book is no help.  Do you have any suggestions?

The FIRST thing is to throw that pice of mis-information, Mis-leading useless, In my professional opinion, Item called a HAYNES book in the TRASH. These FITS-EM-ALL type books are useless.

If your going to do your OWN work on the vehicle purchase aset of OEM (Original Equipment via MANUFACTURER which are the IDENTICAL books that the dealers get and you can purchase them thru HELM Corp on-line.

I do NOT have a 99 Escort service manual or I would send you a diagram of where it goes.
