Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: Honda Civic AC 97, internal compressor, compressor components

Question
I have a 97 honda civic, until recently the air conditioner has been blowing cool air. Now the air is coming out hot, I added some freon my self and it still did not cool. I opened up the hood and noticed were the compressor is and saw something different. Before when i would acclerate this pulley thing on my aircompressor would stop turning. Now it does not do that it countinues to turn. This piece is what connects to the belt. I did some research and think it is called the ac clutch. Could this be causing my problem?

Answer
Whenever the A/C system gets LOW on freon the A/C clutch will NOT engage and turn the internal compressor components.

When the vehicle is at idle speed and you turn ON the A/C, You can usually feel a slight drop in engine speed and you can feel the A/C hose getting COLD.

1. Either you have a leak in the A/C system thus causing the compressor NOT to engage due to insufficient amount of freon OR you have a problem with the A/C clutch engagement.

Without actaully having the vehicle to look at, I can't really tell you WHICH problem you have.

Your best option is to have a professional A/C facility have a look.
